LGBTIQA+ students’ transformative ‘religious freedom’ definitions

Definitions of ‘religious freedom’ around schools’ treatment lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, intersex, queer and asexual (LGBTIQA+) students have been regularly debated internationally, with little input from LGBTIQA+ students. Transformative theories religious freedom sex, gender sexuality in education suggest cannot counter equality. This study uses data the 2022 Gender Sexuality Expression Schools Survey to explore 1293 Australian students’ relevant experiences definitions schools. Basic descriptive correlative statistical analyses were undertaken for quantitative SPSS Excel including chi square tests; alongside Leximancer-supported thematic poetic transcription qualitative responses. defined as positive freedoms (non-)memberships (non-)beliefs, without interpersonal/institutional harm or coercion. They often framed using ‘transformative’ pro-LGBTIQA+ ideals. less likely experience schools; where policy educational interventions appear necessary.
